Monkey Slots - Towns Call for More Slot Profit

Slot Machines have been bringing in money to the state of Connecticut for quite some time now. But over the recent years an interesting dichotomy has been in the works; as the money made from the slot machines increases there has been a steady decline of those funds that are being distributed to the local towns and areas that host the slot parlors and casinos. This is due to the occurrence of money being sifted away from local grants and being redistributed.

But now there is a reform that has been put into effect that was introduced this past July that has increased the amount the local communities receive from the slot machine profits to an annual aid grant of $750,000 , which close to the 78 percent of the state cut that the towns were receiving when the casinos first opened. But after years past that amount slid back to a mere 21 percent or $85 million annually.

The amount the state receives is approximately 25 percent of the joint revenue of the two largest casinos in the area, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, and ends up equaling an annual amount of $430 million. The real issue that are effecting local communities are particular to the towns that host these mammoth casinos and slot machine parlors. The host towns are spending about one million dollars per year to compensate for the growth and add traffic to their community because of the casinos. So any amount of financial assistance will greatly increase the towns’ capability of handling the responsibility of host such large tourist attractions.
