Monkey Slots - Seniors Mourn Game Room Closures

Florida seniors are in a state of remorse after the state closed down their favorite spot to socialize and entertain themselves, the local game room. These unassuming game rooms were filled with penny slot machines that the seniors love to spend a couple of hours chatting among and generally spending no more than ten dollars over the course of the time. The seniors also say they never would never leave the game rooms without getting a free meal from the owners, who had all almost become like family.

"You know when you go home to your grandmother's house, and grandmother always made sure you were fed?" says one patron who felt that the game rooms gave a lot of the senior a relaxed and affordable way to socialize in a familiar environment. The Manatee gaming rooms were a much needed outlet for many of the seniors who feel that it was one of the few places that they could go and enjoy themselves in safe environment, other than staying at home or shopping.

The reason behind the shut down were due to the states policy that any slot machine or games that do not involve chance are illegal, but many respond to this by pointing out the rather obvious rebuttal, "What's skilled about bingo? What's skilled about buying lottery tickets?" Some feel that this is only do to the fact that the state isn't getting as large of a cut of the profits that they would like unlike these sanctioned forms of gambling. The raid resulted in several different owners and managers being arrested and fifty thousand dollars being confiscated and up to one hundred slot machines.
