Monkey Slots - Massachusetts Votes on Slots
April fifth has been decided to be the day that the Massachusetts House
will hold its debate on the bill concerning slot machines in the state. So
far the bill has been passed around and procrastinated about for quite some
time and is now finally going to be considered in a legitimate setting.
The speaker of the house has been the force behind much of the
procrastination but other representatives know that he merely remains
neutral that the bill has the ability to pass by a small margin. But even if
the bill does pass the Governor has already promised to yield a swift veto
in order to kill the bill once and for all.
The arguments are the same with every state that is dealing with this
decision. Some say the slot machines would promote job growth and maintain a
higher amount of state dollar for tax reasons, while others say that the
slot machines would open up the state to social problems that come with
compulsive gambling. It is estimated that Massachusetts residents spent over
one billion dollar at Connecticut and Rhode Island slot machines. |
