Monkey Slots - Landmark Preps for Demolition with Auction

Reno, Nevada has often been referred to as a sort of
quirky casino and slot machine mecca off the beaten
path. It's history with slot machines dates back to
the very birth of slot machines themselves yet due to
its less overtly commercial sensibility, Reno has
taken a back seat to the glitz and flash of Las Vegas.
Now, when people think of the heart of Nevada casino
and slot machine action, Sin City comes to mind and
not the "Biggest Little City", at least, until that
flashy doppelganger hosted a highly publicized auction
featuring the antique slot machines that started it
all.

The source and locale for such a history rich auction
was at Reno's Liberty Belle Saloon, which has now
closed its doors to the slot machine loving public and
only re-opened them in order to give a few of the fans
out there the opportunity to snatch up a piece of
their beloved slot machine history. The auction was
overflowing with over six hundred vintage slot
machines dating all the way back to the dawn of their
conception. Much of the reason behind the stellar
collection of antique specimens is that the Liberty
Belle was own by two brother who also happen to be the
grandsons of the man who invented the first slot
machine.

Charles Fay originated the slot machine in his home
town with a simple three reel design boasting the name
of Liberty Bell in the late 1890's. The rest is
history as they say and now slot machines have over
taken the gambling landscape to be the most popular
and profitable item in any casino in the world. Even
state governments are turning to the power of slot
machines. But despite the popularity of its
originating namesake, the Liberty Belle Saloon, which
opened in the fifties, has been closed and planned for
demolition due to the nearby expansion of the area
convention center.
